Lincoln, Pryor Announce $84K in Housing Assistance for Northwest Arkansas Veterans

Washington, DC – October 8, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor today announced that the Fayetteville Housing Authority will receive an $84,393 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant to help 25 local veterans secure affordable housing.

Funds will be used to provide rental assistance vouchers for homeless veterans and their families in Fayetteville and surrounding communities. HUD’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program, which awards funds to public housing agencies that partner with VA medical facilities, will allow the Fayetteville Housing Authority to support 25 more veterans in addition to the 35 veterans it already serves.

“Our nation’s veterans have made countless sacrifices to help keep Arkansans and Americans safe, and it is our responsibility to ensure that our brave servicemen and women have the resources they need when they return home,” Lincoln said. “I am proud to announce this funding, which will not only help provide affordable housing for Northwest Arkansas veterans, but will also help us follow through on the promise we made to those who have given so much to this country.”

“We can never repay our veterans for their sacrifice, but we can ensure they receive the tools and benefits necessary to live the American Dream,” Pryor said. “These funds will provide affordable housing options for our veterans and help them build secure, successful lives.”

“The Fayetteville Housing Authority aims to help as many homeless individuals in our area as we can, and this funding will enable us to help 25 more veterans in need,” said Fredia Sawin, Executive Director of the Fayetteville Housing Authority. “We are committed to ensuring our homeless veterans get the help they need to improve their lives.”

“This funding will increase our ability to serve veterans in Northwest Arkansas and reduce the number of veterans on the waiting list to receive housing assistance,” said Brian McAnally, Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Fayetteville. “Our goal is to end homelessness among veterans who have sacrificed on behalf of our country, and this investment will definitely be put to good use.”
