Lincoln Announces $52,000 Grant to Help Low-Income Families Renovate Homes in Cross, Lee, Monroe, St. Francis Counties
Fargo, AR – October 21, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced the Arkansas Land and Farm Development Corporation will receive a $52,738 Housing Preservation Grant to help ten low-income families renovate their homes in Cross, Lee, Monroe and St. Francis counties. The grant is made possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Grant Program.
“Low-income families in rural Arkansas will now be able to access much needed resources that will allow them to upgrade and renovate their homes,” Lincoln said. “As Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I’ve worked tirelessly to help Arkansans secure these USDA grants to create jobs and give our rural and lower-income communities the tools they need to grow and prosper.”
The Housing Preservation Grant program provides grants for the repair or rehabilitation of low- and very low-income housing. The grants are competitive and are made available in areas where there is a concentration of need.
In addition to the Housing Preservation Grant, the Arkansas Land and Farm Development Corporation recently received a separate grant from the USDA for $355,412, announced earlier this week by Lincoln. Those funds, awarded through the USDA’s Beginning Farmer and Rancher Program, will go toward providing training and assistance to beginning farmers and ranchers.
