Lincoln Celebrates Funds to Help Low-Income Families Build Homes in Baxter, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, Searcy Counties

Harrison, AR – October 28, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today celebrated the awarding of a $542,349 Self-Help Housing grant to the Northwest Regional Housing Authority of Harrison, to help 33 low-income families build their own homes. The grant is made possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Grant Program.

Northwest Regional Housing Authority serves the counties of Baxter, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, and Searcy and is focused on promoting adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment free from discrimination.

“Low-income families in Northern Arkansas will now be able to access much needed resources that will allow them to become homeowners,” Lincoln said. “As Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I’ve worked tirelessly to help Arkansans secure these USDA grants to create jobs and give our rural and lower-income communities the tools they need to grow and prosper.”
