Washington, DC – May 6, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Vic Snyder (AR-02) and Mike Ross (AR-04) today announced that four Arkansas cities will receive $2,663,373 in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help improve urban communities and provide housing for low-income individuals.
Conway, Hot Springs, Pine Bluff and Springdale were awarded Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) that are used to develop urban communities by supporting projects that revitalize neighborhoods, promote economic development, and improve local facilities and services.
In addition, Pine Bluff was awarded a HOME program grant, which will be used to expand the supply of affordable housing for low-income Pine Bluff residents and their families.
The following cities received funds:
Conway – $459,943 (CDBG)
Springdale – $567,091 (CDBG)
Hot Springs – $427,557 (CDBG)
Pine Bluff – $786,222 (CDBG), $422,560 (HOME)
“These grants will create better living environments in Arkansas’s urban communities and help those in need afford housing,” Lincoln said. “Having a safe and secure place to live is a critical component of building a stable and productive life and many Arkansans will benefit from this investment.”
“Affordable housing and safe neighborhoods help put families and communities on the path to success. These funds will help cities across Arkansas attract economic development opportunities and provide their residents with secure homes,” Pryor said.
“By investing our federal dollars in community development, we ensure the best in housing and economic opportunity across Central Arkansas and the nation,” Snyder said.
“During these tough economic times, too many Arkansans have lost their jobs or their homes through no fault of their own,” Ross said. “These federal investments will not only help create jobs now, but they will also help many Arkansans get back on their feet, find a job and find a place of their own to call home.”
