Lincoln, Pryor, Berry, Snyder, Ross Announce Grants to Develop and Improve Public Housing in Arkansas
Washington, DC – June 18, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Marion Berry (AR-01), Vic Snyder (AR-02) and Mike Ross (AR-04) today announced that 106 housing authorities in Arkansas will receive grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) under its Capital Fund program to develop, modernize and better manage public housing units in Arkansas.
“Having a safe and secure place to live is a critical component of building a stable and productive life,” Lincoln said. “I am pleased that Arkansas’s housing authorities will use this funding to expand and improve public housing for families in need throughout our state.”
“A secure home can provide a strong foundation for success,” Pryor said. “These funds will make a real difference in improving the lives of many Arkansas families and is a wise investment in our local communities.”
“A lot of Arkansans rely on public housing to keep a roof over their head, and it is important we help to support these people in need,” Berry said. “These grants providing modern, safe housing will mean people can focus on their jobs and family more, and will in effect benefit everyone in those communities.”
“This funding ensures that Arkansas can make the improvements needed to adequately maintain public housing for our hardworking families and community members,” Snyder said “These improvement projects will also help create jobs in these communities.”
“During these tough economic times, too many Arkansans have lost their jobs or their homes through no fault of their own,” Ross said. “These federal investments will not only help save jobs in the short term, but they will also help many Arkansans get back on their feet, find a job and find a place of their own to call home.”
